What do I do about holes in my travertine floors?

Q: We have travertine floors throughout the kitchen and hallways. We just noticed small holes in a number of different tiles that were never there before. What could be causing this? Is there anything that we can do to fix it?

A: Travertine has naturally occurring holes. These holes can be filled in and smoothed out to give the floor a uniform appearance.
